Turnberry Ailsa
The links were turned into runways during World War II. Tom Watson and
Jack Nicklaus had their "shootout" during the 1977 Open at this
course. With holes framed by sand dunes and flanked by craggy rocks, the
imposing Turnberry lighthouse stands stoically bearing witness to the
many seafarers who have come to a watery grave off the rugged coastline.
Turnberry Kintyre
(formerly Arran)
It has been said that if this course were not adjacent to the more well
known Ailsa Course, it would be ranked among the top courses in Scotland.
Completely redone to championship standards, this course is no pushover.
Kintyre has deep pot bunkers, heather, gorse and uneven fairways to challenge
any golfer. The course demands accurate driving and approach shots.
