Royal Dornoch A magnificent course, Royal Dornoch would undoubtedly earn a place on the Open circuit, were it not for its remoteness.
Originally designed by Old Tom Morris and redesigned by Donald Ross in 1900 to lengthen the hole distances.
Ross' design is seen in every hole particularly around the greens. His hallmarks are elevated terraced greens and a series of devices - bunkers, ridges, hollows and plateaus to prevent a loosely hit ball from running on to the green. Gorse covers much of the course and will penalize many an errant shot.
