Old Head of Kinsale |
|
Opened in 1997, Old Head is one of the most praised links courses in the world. Located atop a 220-acre rocky promontory that juts into the Atlantic Ocean, a three-mile long peninsula that is historic and magnificent. This land is a national monument and a royal site. Old Head offers an unmatched beauty and a challenging golf experience. The course follows along side 300-foot cliffs and features beautiful castle ruins, old stone walls and a lighthouse backdrop. The course has a rocky, heavy playing surface, not typical of a true links golf course. As not to compete with the stunning setting, the course has more of a simplistic design with primitive bunker shapes and unsophisticated green contouring. Virtually treeless, you face a daunting challenge from the breeze off of the sea! |
